Diabetology is the clinical science of diabetes mellitus, its diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder wherein the human body produces less insulin or fails to properly utilise insulin, a hormone that is required to convert sugar, starches, and other food into energy. Diabetes Mellitus is characterized by constant high levels of blood glucose (sugar).
The effects of diabetes mellitus include not only symptoms like tiredness and fatigue , but also long-term damage, dysfunction and failure of vital organs – brain, eyes, heart, kidneys and peripheral nerves. But with appropriate evaluation and guidance, precautions taken in time can be of immense help in controlling the disease and lowering the risk of complications.
